This edition of Intensive cardiac care 1995 is composed of 11 chapters dealing with subjects grouped by affinity, it is easily consultable, with a complete index. In few other branches of medicine the evolution of knowledge has been so fast as in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases; suffice it to say that in the early eighties the intensive cardiac care units were set up to prevent arrhythmic death during acute myocardial infarction. In less than ten years by the routine use of thrombolytic treatment the acute myocardial infarction mortality halved and more and more complex therapies (primary coronary angioplasty, aortic balloon counterpulsation, medical circolatory assistance) have been developed to reduce mortality and complications in this disease.
